More About Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT)

When an injury occurs to the brain, inner-ear, or spinal cord the bodies’ nervous system must be retrained to compensate for the disorder. Our VRT exercise programs will emphasize postural stability, visual stabilization training, balance challenges, and dizziness-provoking movement compensation exercise to appropriately challenge your body to recover. Additional relaxation, massage, and acupuncture techniques are often recommended by our therapists to decrease the mental and emotional distress we so often find in this population. More about this can be found by looking into our wellness services.

Why patients trust Catalyst for vestibular care

Vestibular and balance disorders are some of the most under-treated conditions in physical therapy — partly because diagnosis takes time and most clinics do not have it. Your Catalyst vestibular evaluation runs a full physical-therapist supervised with a physical therapist who has the time to do positional testing, oculomotor exam, and gait analysis without rushing. Whether you are dealing with BPPV, post-concussion symptoms, persistent dizziness, or fall-prevention concerns as you age, we treat each case as its own puzzle. Most BPPV cases resolve in one to three visits with proper canal repositioning. Post-concussion balance issues take longer but typically respond well to graded vestibular and visual rehabilitation, with bite-sized progressions you can actually carry out at home. Available across our Mission Valley, Point Loma, and 4S Ranch clinics.

What to expect at Catalyst

Your first visit

We start with a thorough conversation about your history, goals, and the issue that brought you in — then run hands-on assessments: range of motion, strength, joint mobility, and movement-pattern testing relevant to your condition. You leave with a working diagnosis, a plan of care, and the first round of bite-sized exercise prescription.

Every follow-up visit

Each visit puts you with a physical therapist for hands-on bodywork, skilled therapy to correct faulty biomechanics, exercise progressions, and reassessments — so each session builds on the last. We update your home program with bite-sized changes, not a flood of new exercises.

How long will care take?

Most acute conditions resolve in 6–12 visits over 4–8 weeks. Chronic conditions and post-surgical rehabilitation typically require 16–24 visits over 8–12 weeks. We’ll give you a personalized estimate after the initial evaluation, and we’ll tell you honestly when discharge is appropriate.

What to bring
